Keyword: Family is a project that explores ideas of family, the archive, language and the internet.
This project compares the organization of family photographs from the time of print to digital. The physical archival prints are paired in a way that is meant to create potential narratives, key to contextualizing a family’s history. In the age of the internet, where images are seen by an audience that extends beyond family friends and family of the subjects, the primary method of organization is via non-sentimental symbols such as hashtags and keywords.
The theatricality of the digital images—which were found among a variety of stock image websites—is, to me, a sign of a loss of individuality, truth and human relationships.
