It Happened One Night is part two of a film re-creation that explores ideas of truth, performance, language and affect.

In this video, three actors repeatedly perform a single scene from Frank Capra’s 1934 film “It Happened One Night,” a scene in which an undercover journalist helps a spoiled heiress hide her identity from a hotel owner by staging an argument.

The inclusion of multiple takes of this short scene—one where the viewers are aware of the theatricality of the performed argument—is meant to expose and reiterate the fallibility of truth and language as they relate to perceived identities.
